Chips&Media’s WAVE510A series is the world’s first commercial AV1 HW decoder IP and is one of the most advanced cores which supports the next generation AV1 standard.

AV1 is a patent royalty-free video codec supported by Google, Apple and many global CPs (Content Providers) and is known for about 30 percent better performance than HEVC. 


The WAVE510A is the 2nd generation video IP which is enhanced performance for high-end UHD SoC, which requires about 500 MHz clock frequency to decode 4K 60fps video or 4K 30fps two-channel videos and supports dual VPU core to decode 8K 60fps at 1GHz. In addition to its superior 4K 60fps performance, the WAVE510A also provides maximum bandwidth efficiency and exceptionally low power consumption, which are today’s most demanding requirements across all connected devices and more. It employs frame buffer compression technology named CFrame which can save on average 50~70 percent bandwidth access to memory. 


The WAVE510A is suitable for applications across various industry segments including ultra-high-definition televisions (UHDTVs), set-top boxes (STBs), VR·ARs, smartphones, tablets, and any others with super-high resolution.
