Amazon acquires Smart Doorbell venture

A recent news of Amazon pays 1 Billion dollars to buy "Ring" which is video doorbell venture. Amazon who had already staked in to Ring's earlier rounds of funding, now acquires the full company which to be operated independently.

 

"Ring" which was once rejected on famous TV show "Shark Tank" and passed on by numerous VCs since its first appeared on the show in 2013. 

However, since its first introduction in 2013, Ring is now staffed with 1,300 people, 10 core products and sold in 16,000 stores. This immerse success is also being backed by star investor such as Richar Branson of Virgin Group.

 

Ring's main product is video doorbell, which enables users to check the visitors and possible intruders in your doorstep with mobile devices and almost any connected device. This doorbell supports motion detection, infrared night vision, cloud recording, wide field of view.

 

This acquisition and success of Ring is rather unique and portraits new application of which a device combines ISP, computational photography (3DNR, LDC) and codec.
